LOS ANGELES — Mayor Eric Garcetti today announced the launch of VolunteerLA, a web platform and mobile app designed to connect Angelenos with meaningful opportunities to make a difference in our communities.
“When Angelenos see a challenge, they want to meet it — by giving their time, talent, and energy to good causes that have real meaning in people’s lives,” said Mayor Garcetti. “VolunteerLA will help accelerate some of the most important work being done in the City right now — from ending homelessness to beautifying public spaces.”
The VolunteerLA web platform is a centralized clearinghouse for service opportunities. With one click, users can see — and then sign up for — activities led by the City of Los Angeles or partners across the city and region. This tool will increase visibility for volunteer opportunities expanding participation. The platform received support from the Mayor’s Fund for Los Angeles and members of a Nonprofit and Corporate Council.
Mayor Garcetti has made strengthening and increasing civic engagement a priority for his administration and in 2017 launched the Mayor’s Office of Volunteer Engagement (MOVE) to further this work. He also convened more than 100 religious leaders from across L.A. to launch Days of Compassion — an interfaith effort to rally faith community support in the fight to end homelessness. And in 2014, Mayor Garcetti launched the Mayor’s Volunteer Corps, a service initiative to coordinate community improvement events across Los Angeles.
