Mayor’s Fund Partners with Eviction Defense Network to Provide Tenants Legal Support

The Mayor’s Fund for Los Angeles’ We Are LA program is working with Eviction Defense Network (EDN) to help tenants who are facing eviction remain housed. EDN provides tenants with legal support and representation to navigate the complex process associated with eviction proceedings.
When Angelenos respond to We Are LA outreach efforts, they receive direct assistance from resource specialists from our community-based partner organizations. Caseworkers offer a welcoming environment and warm hand to those who request support, ensuring that they are signed up for all available resources, including healthcare, childcare, housing, mental health services, and housing-related legal services.
The Mayor’s Fund’s trained caseworkers now link We Are LA tenants who have received a formal eviction filing directly to EDN for personalized legal support and representation. Through an enhanced intake process, EDN’s attorneys and staff assess the strength of each tenant’s case, work with them to assemble their case files, and represent them in trial or negotiations with their landlord. Up to 2,500 Angelenos at risk of eviction will receive attorney services this year under this model, which can be scaled and broadly replicated.
