Summer Tenant Resource Clinics
We Are LA summer resource clinics attracted more than 160 Angelenos
On June 29 and July 13, the Mayor’s Fund partnered with City Councilmembers Hugo Soto-Martinez and Eunisses Hernandez to host We Are Los Angeles Tenant Resource Clinics in Council Districts 13 and 1. The first event was at the Bresee Foundation, and the second was at Central City Neighborhood Partners.
More than 160 people attended to get help stabilizing their housing and avoiding eviction. The clinics included legal and financial workshops; help connecting to resources like CalFresh, MediCal, and tax credits; a food giveaway; job search resources; and the opportunity to discuss other housing concerns with trained city personnel.
Conway Collis, the Mayor’s Fund President and CEO, emphasized the importance of preventing evictions in reducing homelessness in Los Angeles.
“This is the first time in years that there’s actually been a decrease in street homelessness in Los Angeles,” said Collis, referencing the recently released homeless count numbers. “This change is the result of really being aggressive with policies to protect tenants, to keep people housed, and to move people from the streets into housing with services. But it starts with prevention, and that’s what our tenant resource clinics are all about.”
In total, We Are LA had helped more than 29,000 individuals and families stabilize their housing by the end of June 2024.
