Our Fund commissioned LA Youth Poet Laureate Salome Agbaroji to create an original poem reflecting and celebrating the collective work of the Mayor’s Fund for Los Angeles during the Garcetti administration.

Salome Agbaroji is a fifteen-year-old Nigerian-American poet based in Los Angeles County, California. Salome was a part of the Get Lit team that won the second place title in the Brave New Voices competition, the world’s largest youth poetry competition. She has performed for the likes of Stacey Abrams, Mrs. Tina Lawson, and many more. Aside from poetry, she will be serving as the President of her class at Gahr High School and the student founder of her school district’s Diversity, Unity, and Equity Board. She continues her activism and creative expression with music-making. Through each piece she urges social change and community action, focusing on themes of racism, oppression, femininity, Christianity, and inclusion.
